Decorating Home

Our apartment complex is having a beautification contest for the summer. On a monthly basis those who have the best looking arrangement of flowers gets a discount on their rent.

So to step up to the competition, and to help cure Erin's notorious self-proclaimed 'black thumb', we invited my mom over to give us some pointers.

We made two stops, first at K-Mart and then Tacoma Boys fresh produce to make our purchases.

As you can see a rainbow joined us for the afternoon.

Below is one of our fuchsias.

No, Erin's head didn't shrink. That is a giant strawberry that we found at Tacoma Boys. They are just as juicy and sweet as they are big.

The view from your little porch is awesome. Not at all like the cinder block wall view that we both enjoyed from our other apartment. Make sure you keep us updated on the winner of the competition. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys.

wow, I missed a lot! That's pretty cool about the discount on rent for winning the beautification contest. It seems all out neighbors are planting flowers and putting up hanging pots on their porches and I'm feeling a little pressure to do the same. It does look really pretty to have all the hanging pots on the porch, so eventually I'll have to get out of the house and do some flower shopping. My fear is that I will forget about them and they won't get water and will die...

Isn't it a great view? The rainbow Joshua captured is really weak compared to some we have seen. They always seem to form in that same spot out on the water. I think we stand a chance in this contest since there will be one winner each month from May through August. The neighbors are giving us steep competition though! So far so good remembering to water - Joshua is in charge of that! He asks me every night if I have gone out and talked to the plants today. What a nut!
