Well, I was going to let Joshua blog about this since I wrote about the rest of our road trip, but he hasn't got around to it yet and we leave on Friday for two more weeks of adventures. So, here it is. On our way back from Albuquerque, we made a detour to see the Grand Canyon. Joshua had never been and my family stopped for about 15 minutes once on our way to Lake Powell. We decided to drive until we were too tired, and we ended up in a lovely place called Williams, Arizona. The first listing in our AAA guide book that matched our price range was the Canyon Country Motel. Low and behold, it was a terrific place to stay for under $40! 
The caboose and train car are rooms available for surprisingly low rates. There is also an RV park on site as well as an indoor swimming pool!
We stayed here in this cabin-style room equipped with a king size bed.
I'm sure everyone has seen many a panoramic picture of the Grand Canyon, so I will not post them, but here we are with an amazing backdrop at the South Rim of the canyon.

That whole emphasis on the accommodations over the canyon reminds me of Mike Erre's story about going to the grand canyon as a kid and being content to stay in the swimming pool... despite the enormous natural wonder waiting to be seen...
I wonder if they stayed in the same place?
I'm with Mike. The canyon was cool, but you can only look at it for so long...
Hee hee. Speaking of Mike Erre...Did you hear that he had his first book published? It's called The Jesus of Suburbia and we just bought it on Amazon for uner $10 (I think). Check it out!
I wonder if he'll make a books on tape version. That I would be interested in!
I still hope to see the grandness of the canyon someday. I did see the grand canyon of the south pacific in Kauai. I was in a helicopter and it made me really sick!
Hey guys, awesome trip! Jay bought Erre's book a little while ago and it's pretty cool. Not too long so I think even Rachel could read it - LOL! It's a lot of snippets from messages at RockHarbor. I think it's really cool he put out a book and it makes me kinda sad and miss RockHarbor...but we do have a great church here now.
