So I thought it would be nice to scrape the icky popcorn off of our new ceilings. We put our nephew Spencer to work donned in mask and goggles. What a mess that stuff made! The whole house (and half the neighborhood) was covered in powder. Joshua took over to finish the task and he managed to keep the dust to only the one room. Take a look at Spencer the "snowman"!

I just wanted to say congrats on the house - that is sooo awesome! What fun you guys are going to have with all the upgrades.
Ahh, popcorn ceilings...the one thing about our house that I don't like. Scraping those bad boys was a good call on your part. Much better to do it now before you move a whole bunch of stuff in.
You know, I never had a problem with the popcorn ceilings. Every house I lived in while growing up had them. I remember picking at them from my bunkbed.
At first I detested the scraping when my nephew was doing it because it created so much dust. But I found that if you just get it wet first, it won't dust so much. As you can see, Spencer is far more white-coated than I am.
And you're off....! Congratulations on buying your new home. We don't hear of many home buyers where we live in So Calif, just wistful home SELLERS. You are in such a beautiful community. We loved the tour of Gig Harbor with your folks in July. Have fun with your new home.
Love,
Pat and Don
Ahh, the getting it wet trick. I've heard of that. We just paid someone to do it when we bought our condo. I refussed to move in until it was done. What an OC snob I was :)
I hope there wasn't any asbestos in there!
Still waiting for the picture of you guys standing in front of the house with the "sold" sign... and the rake...
I saw on HGTV some guys actually brought a hose into the house, covered the floor and walls in plastic and started spraying. That might have been extreme, but it would definitely cut down on the dust.
Jay,
We never even saw the sold sign! One day it was the for sale sign and the next it was gone. I guess that's what happens when you have a 2 week escrow ...
