I was quoted in today's paper. Front page, cover story, first paragraph. The article was about how the rise in fuel prices have gotten people to start using public transportation. I sent in my story last week and included a spreadsheet calculator that I had made for the comparison of driving versus using public transportation.
He didn't include the calculator in his story but I am including it in this blog post below. It's handy, it includes toll roads and can even calculate if or when it makes more sense to carpool instead of riding the bus.

That's funny, because I created a similar spreadsheet about a year ago (only not as thorough or user-friendly) to figure out what train stop was the cheapest for me to use (tickets were a lot more expensive the farther you traveled). Then I convinced my company to join the 'eco pass' program, so now my train pass is free!
I plugged in my numbers to your spreadsheet. I never calculated my daily driving cost before... makes you think a little when your spending an extra $5 on the days you drive to work... Makes me want to schedule all my outside meetings on the same day...
